Moldflow
Molding Simulation
Molding simulation is a vital part of the Amies DFM process, used to analyse many aspects of the component design determining whether it can be Injection Moulded to produce a part of the required quality.

Moldflow – How do we use it?
Amies has invested significantly in the highly capable Moldex 3D software package running on a dedicated high power workstation.
This ensures we can iterate multiple analyses in a short timeframe, often making changes directly to the 3D models to test solutions before proposing to the customer which often saves a lot of time.
The process starts with uploading the 3D CAD model of the part into the software and then defining various parameters such as the feed gate size/position, material grade and the type of analyis required. This analysis can be anything from a basic filling analysis of a part through to a full multi-stage analysis using the gate, sprue and runner geometry from the tool design or even the full tool CAD with cooling channels and dies as they will be in the tool.
Our team analyse the output of the Analysis to identify areas where there will be a problem or where the component can be improved and then determine how this might best be achieved.
Typically the Moldflow process is iterative starting with simple analyses which run quickly and increasing in complexity as the DFM process and optimisation of the part design reaches its conclusion
