Founded in 1929

W.E. Amies and Co. Ltd was founded in 1929 by Bill Amies. The original factory location was in central Sheffield.

Jack Shepley

Jack Shepley joined the business in the mid thirties and within a few years took over ownership from Bill, who returned to a career in research and development. The business has remained under the ownership of the Shepley family ever since.

Thermoset Materials

Since the start Amies core business was the manufacture of plastic products, originally via compression molding Thermoset materials such as Phenolic and Bakelite. Later, we moved on to include the more modern DST process before finally moving away from Thermoset moulding. By the early 1990’s, our focus was exclusively on Injection Moulding of Thermoplastics.

This makes Amies one of the oldest (if not the oldest) UK companies that was founded to manufacture plastic products from the start.

From Sheffield to Chesterfield

The business moved from Sheffield to Chesterfield in 1961, taking over a building which had previously been a sweet factory. We have remained there ever since, becoming an established part of the Chesterfield business community and a valued source of long-term local employment.
