Design For Manufacture (DFM)
DFM is an essential element in every succesful project, ensuring that the design of components is optimised to eliminate issues that will prevent succesful production and to enhance quality and value.

Design for Manufacture
The earlier in the design process Amies can engage with preliminary DFM, the better the outcome is likely to be for our customers.
We offer all our customers this service to support new projects and also frequently to resolve long standing and sometimes serious issues with existing products/tooling that is transferred to us.
DFM – Who, What, How?
To support this essential process, Amies has built up a strong technical team with an extensive combination of experience in both processing and tooling gained over many years in the industry.
Utilising this wealth of experience in combination with the latest Moldex 3D Molding Simulation and Solidworks 3D CAD modelling software tools (and FEA where needed).
The team in the the first instance analyse the component design to ensure there are no basic issues that would prevent succesful manufacture and where there are, identify changes that will resolve them.
Beyond this we also engage with the customer to fully understand how the component is used and may interact with others, applying this information to the DFM.
With this information we are also able to suggest changes that can improve the outcome or function of the product and ensure that the correct tooling strategy is employed.
We then feedback the issues identified to the customer, for discussion, agreement and implementation. How this is done very much depends on the preference of the customer and we can tailor our approach to suit but typically it is a mix of written reports, online meetings and exchange of updated CAD models.
